Limestone
Gujarat is one of the largest producers of portland cement with a number of cement plants spread in and around the state. Most of them use lignite- procured from the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limiteds mines at Panandhro (about 120 Km from Bhuj) as a fuel and limestone (a hard sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate, obtained as a surface miner or blasted material) as the major raw material for production of cement. The Bhuj transport division transports limestone to Shree Digvijay Cement Company Limited (www.adityabirla.com in Sikka, Jamnagar district, Gujarat India) as well as M/ s Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited (in Morasa, Veraval district, Gujarat, India- www.mehtagroup.com/gs_cement.htm).
