Kutch Dates Development Consortiam (K.D.D.C)
KDDC stands for Kutch Dates Development Consortium; an association of farmers registered under society act 1860 based in Bhuj, Gujarat and is the biggest organization of BARAHI Date palm growers in India. As the name signifies, the prime objective of KDDC is development of an integrated project of dates right from quality production to quality produce in the hands of consumer.
Kutch(Gujarat)-India being situated in the Northern west part of Gujarat, India is the most suitable place for date palm cultivation. As dates require a hot climate and are considered as a high saline resistant crop, they need a well drained, deep, sandy type of soil having adequate aeration (12%) with a bulk density of 1-1.5 g/cm3 and an available water holding capacity of at least 15%.
The organization looks after all the needs of the members ranging from import of planting material, PEQ facility, fertilizers, manure, pesticides, technical knowhow etc for development of marketing channels and provision of buyback guaranties.
KDDC was started with 25 members with an area of plantation of about 500 acres in three talukas of Kutch, and since then it has been increasing day by day. The area of cultivation is expected to reach 1000 acres in near future as more and more farmers are taking up dates cultivation in the area.
25000 offshoots and tissue cultured plants had been procured from Israel, Jordan and U.A.E. after several visits by the members of the consortium so that the quality of highest standards can be maintained.
