Gujarat
is one of the largest producers of portland cement with a number
of cement plants spread in and around the state. Most of them use
lignite- procured from the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation
Limited’s mines at Panandhro (about 120 Km from Bhuj) as a
fuel and limestone (a hard sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium
carbonate, obtained as a surface miner or blasted material) as the
major raw material for production of cement. The Bhuj transport
division transports limestone to Shree Digvijay Cement Company Limited
