North
India is dependent on Kandla and Mundra port for export and import
of cargoes. High quality Rice & Wheat is mostly exported to
far- east and gulf countries through Adani Port Limited, Mundra.
Both Rice & Wheat are brought into the Adani Port premises in
bags of 50 Kg by railway wagons. They are then taken to the respective
go downs/ wear house for storage and subsequent loading unto ship.
The Rice bags are loaded unto container for shipping. But Wheat
bags are normally ripped open, stored in a different stock yard,
cleaned (if required) and then loaded unto the ship in loose condition-
called bulk loading. The port has now installed a conveyor system
for direct bulk loading of Wheat unto ships. Hence, the stevedore’s
job in case of Wheat bulk loading is now restricted to transporting
the loose material from Wheat wear house to feeding the hopper of
the conveyor belt. |
